While each case will be considered individually, we generally will not accept patients who are under the age of 18, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have cognitive impairments, have not tried another prescription mental health medication before, do not have depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder, have thoughts of harming themselves or others, have hallucinations or delusions, have hypoglycemic (low sugar) episodes or are prone to such episodes, have a personal history or family history of pheochromocytoma (a rare, usually noncancerous tumor that develops from tissue in the adrenal gland), are taking a medication that is high risk when combined with a MAOI, or have a medical condition such as very high or low blood pressure, heart failure, advanced chronic kidney disease, or cirrhosis that limit safe use of a MAOI.

The frequency of appointments needed is up to the discretion of your provider based on your unique circumstances. As a general rule, appointments are needed when changing the dose of your medication or to address side effects. You can also schedule an appointment any time you want to talk to your provider. You can schedule an appointment directly from your account.

Contact us. Our team will be able to assist you with issues such as switching pharmacies, changing payment methods, and completing prior authorizations. If you have a medical question, you will need to discuss it with your provider at an appointment.

Prior to starting care with us, you will be given a form to provide your primary care provider or an in-person psychiatrist. This form will have suggestions for medications to treat side effects or improve your response to a MAOI. Your in-person provider can assess your symptoms and determine appropriate treatments including ones we recommend.

You can request a refill by contacting us.

We do not accept health insurance at this time. However, many insurances will reimburse you if you submit an invoice. Please keep your emails containing your appointment receipts should you need them in the future.

While this is provider-dependent, we generally do not provide any of these as they typically require an evaluation from an in-person provider.

MAOIs typically start working within 1-2 months. Nardil (Phenelzine) may take up to 3 months for some people. As with any other medication, the types of responses may vary in different people depending on their specific treatment situations and history.

While we treat patients who live in all 50 states and can send your prescription to any pharmacy in the U.S., you must agree to be in any of these following states whenever you talk with one of our providers: AL, AR, AZ, CA, DE, DC, FL, HI, IA, ID, IN, KS, MD, MN, MO, MS, ND, NE, NC, NY, OH, OK, SC, TN, TX, VA, WV.

Common side effects include: insomnia, dizziness, fatigue, changes in weight, headache, sexual dysfunction, urinary retention, and stomach upset. Most of these side effects are only present for a few days to a few weeks and can be effectively managed.

Major risks include serotonin syndrome and tyramine-induced hypertension. You can learn more about both of those here.

Yes. Some common foods include: pickled or fermented foods, aged cheeses, cured and smoked meats, pickled or fermented foods, soybeans, broad beans, fava beans, improperly stored foods or spoiled foods. A more comprehensive list will be available for patients who will start to take a MAO Inhibitor.

All payments are non-refundable. The membership fee is automatically processed monthly. To cancel your membership without incurring the following month’s membership fee, you must notify us of your desire to cancel at least 48 hours prior your renewal membership fee is due. If you cancel an appointment, you can reschedule straight from your account or you can always contact us. If it is more than 24 hours until your appointment, we will provide you with a voucher worth the amount you paid to use towards your next appointment. If you contact us to reschedule within 24 hours of your appointment, we will provide you with a voucher worth the amount you paid minus $30 as a late cancelation fee. Vouchers are non-transferable and expire one year after the original scheduled appointment date. They are only applicable towards maoinhibitors.com appointments, for single use only and cannot be split between appointments nor combined with other vouchers or discounts.If you cancel your membership, you will still be able to log-in anytime you are ready to restart your subscription.

Anesthesia is possible for people on MAO inhibitors, but you need to talk to your anesthesia provider first. They’ll decide which anesthesia is safe for you. Usually, they ask to stop MAO inhibitors 2 weeks before surgery. If stopping a MAOI is risky for your health, let your anesthesiologist know.

Individuals taking Selegiline (oral or Emsam, a patch form) or Parnate (Tranylcypromine) may have a false positive result for methamphetamine and amphetamine on a urine drug test. To address this, let the tester know about all your medications before the test.

Your provider will discuss and manage your medications related to mental health and will prescribe as appropriate. Unfortunately, we are not prescribing controlled substances (including stimulants and benzodiazepines) at this time.

The most common side effects are difficulty falling sleeping and dizziness with standing. Both are short-lived, typically resolving in a few days to a few weeks at a given dose. Our providers employ simple and effective solutions to prevent and treat side effects.

Membership includes an appointment each month if desired. Appointments are required initially as your provider adjusts your medication. Once you have achieved a stable dose, appointments are often optional and patients can submit a refill request without an appointment directly from their account.

Restrictions are relatively minimal. Often patients don’t need to change their diet or only need to eliminate 1 or 2 foods. In some cases, adding a low-dose of certain medications can eliminate dietary restrictions. [38-42]38. There is a known risk of Serotonin Syndrome or serotonin toxicity when MAOIs are combined with certain medications and supplements. Your provider will review these risks and ways to mitigate them.

We do not accept patients with any of the following:

  • Are less than 18 years of age
  • Have hallucinations or delusions
  • Have thoughts of hurting themselves or others
  • Have never tried another prescription medication for mood disorders or anxiety disorders
  • Have a personal history or family history of pheochromocytoma (a rare, usually noncancerous tumor that develops in an adrenal gland)
  • Have poorly controlled Diabetes and/or frequent low blood sugar events
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Taken a medication that affects your serotonin levels and have not had a sufficient “break” from the medication before starting a MAOI. (Feel free to contact us if you are unsure about your own medications)

Our patients live in all 50 States. We can send your prescriptions to your chosen pharmacy.
